FastForWord for Upper Primary / High School

Upper primary and high school students use both the Fast ForWord Literacy and Fast ForWord Literacy Advanced programmes, which comprise Step 1. Sonic Learning supplies both of these programmes in the initial programme package. Following completion of Step 1, participants have the choice of extending their learning development with the Step 2 Fast ForWord to Reading programmes.

Step 1. Build foundational brain skills to optimise students' learning potential with Fast ForWord to Literacy for upper primary/high school.

Space Racer

Space Racer
Improves the speed at which the student identifies and understands rapid, successive changes in sound (listening accuracy), and improves the student’s ability to hold sounds in memory.

Galaxy Goal

Galaxy Goal
Improves identification and discrimination of syllables that differ by an individual phoneme, increasing student’s phonological fluency and listening accuracy.

Spin Master

Spin Master
This phonological fluency exercise increases in difficulty across three dimensions: synthetic speech emphasis, presentation rate, phoneme discrimination.

Lunar Tunes

Lunar Tunes
Improves the student’s ability to recognise spoken words by having them use auditory and visual spatial working memory to locate matching syllables.

Stellar Stories

Stellar Stories
Improves skills in listening comprehension, English language conventions, and following directions through a combination of increasingly complex activities.

Continue Step 1 with Fast ForWord to Literacy Advanced for upper primary/high school.
Sky Rider

Sky Rider
Improves organisation, focus, and working memory by challenging the participant to identify, remember, and repeat the number and order of a series of modulated frequency sound sweeps. These frequencies have a direct connection to the frequencies of letter sounds and speech sounds.

Meteor Ball

Meteor Ball
Improve organisation and focus skills, word analysis, phonological awareness, and working memory, as well as visual tracking to reinforce left to right reading patterns by identifying and discriminating a target word from a series of phonologically similar words.

Lunar Leap

Lunar Leap
Improves organisation and focus skills, word analysis, phonological awareness, and working memory by using auditory and visual cues to match spoken words with written and spoken words, and discriminate between phonologically similar words.

Laser March

Laser Match
Improve organisation and focus skills, word analysis, phonological awareness, and working memory by using auditory and visual cues to match pairs of written and spoken words in a grid.

Galaxy Theatre

Galaxy Theatre
Improve skills in listening comprehension, organisation, focus and English language conventions through a combination of activities that require choosing the correct pictures to match sentences. Increasingly difficult grammar and syntax exercises occur as students progress.

If your child has already completed Step 1, extend them further with Step 2: Target reading and spelling while continuing to improve memory, attention, sequencing and processing speed with Fast ForWord to Reading 3 for upper primary/high school.
Hog Hat Zone

Hog Hat Zone
In a busy construction zone, this Hog needs help. Paragraphs from classic children’s literature are presented with missing words. Finding the correct missing words requires a high level of morphological complexity while building vocabulary skills.

Chicken Dog

Chicken Dog
A fine feathered hot dog vendor helps students build phonetics and spelling skills as they see a word presented with missing letters, and must choose the letters that complete the word.

Book Monkeys

Book Monkeys
A group of monkeys are hanging in the library. As participants help organise dishevelled books, the exercise builds reading comprehension using literal, inferential, and organisational knowledge.

Scrap Cat

Scrap Cat
Amid the trash and treasures of a junkyard, students sort words into linguistic and semantic categories, building the decoding, and vocabulary skills necessary for flexible fluent reading.

Twisted Pictures

Twisted Pictures
By picking the sentence that correctly describes an aspect of the picture presented, students develop syntax and vocabulary skills. This exercise incorporates a high level of syntactic complexity for successful completion of the content.

Continue Step 2 with Fast ForWord to Reading 4 for upper primary/high school. 5 of the 6 games:
Book Monkeys: Book Two

Book Monkeys: Book Two
Those monkeys still haven’t finished organising the city library. Students help them clean up by correctly answering questions about the paragraphs and schedules presented.

Goat Quotes

Goat Quotes
It’s time for a lunch break at Mr Goat’s newsstand. He can be very picky since he only likes to eat papers with sentences that match his headlines, and students must choose the most appropriate paper for him to munch on.

Lulu's Laundry Line

Lulu’s Laundry Line
Students help Lulu and her friends sort the laundry by correctly placing the word or punctuation mark in the displayed paragraph, highlighting general punctuation rules, comma use, and capitalisation.

Stinky Bill's Billboard

Stinky Bill’s Billboard
Students help Stinky Bill get the missing words back on his billboard by selecting the correct word to fill in the blank spaces. Skills developed include the use of compound words, prefixes, and homophones, while building word knowledge.

Jitterbug Jukebox

Jitterbug Jukebox
The folks in the diner want to dance. Students help select the cool tunes by spelling out the words that are pronounced. This exercise builds and reinforces rules that govern the use of high frequency irregular words.

Continue Step 2 with Fast ForWord to Reading 5 for upper primary/high school.
Wood Works

Wood Works
The crafty beaver is building a dam and the students assist his efforts by sorting words into the appropriate phonemic or spelling based categories. This exercise builds accuracy and fluency in spelling, decoding and phonemic analysis.

Gator Jam

Gator Jam
A spirited alligator band helps the hippo serenade his sweetheart, while students create the lyrics by completing and then categorising the various types of analogies. This exercise builds vocabulary and improves critical thinking and abstract reasoning.

Lana's Lanes

Lana’s Lanes
Students are welcomed to Lana’s Lanes, a bovine bowling experience, where they learn reading comprehension strategies as they work with fiction and non-fiction passages that include a wide range of literary structures and devices.

Toad Loader

Toad Loader
There are lots of boxes to pack and label, and students help the toad load the boxes by building a sentence that describes the illustration. This exercise develops accuracy and fluency in recognising sentence structure and constructing sentences.

Quack Splash

Quack Splash
Students help the diving duck build multiple paragraph passages and then demonstrate comprehension of the passages by identifying missing words, phrases and sentences. This exercise develops skills in constructing and organising fiction and non-fiction passages.
